Smith's Precision Knife Sharpening System

Looks similar to the Gatco I recently purchased from Cabela's. I then bought an extra fine stone and a ceramic finishing stone from Gatco. I am very pleased with the results. I have sharpened all the blades within my reach.

I didn't go for the diamond hones. I went for their Professional system.

With the Gatco you have six sharpening angles. I think they are 11°, 15°, 19°, 22°, 25°, or 29°. Looks like with the system you are looking at you have 20° or 25°.

The Gatco came with a stand. It makes it easier than holding the clamp in your hand.

I use to use their systems. They did no produce the edges that I wanted. I now use a spyderco sharpmaker. I would suggest that you just buy the sharpmaker. It is one of the most popular systems on this forums. If you can afford it, get the edge pro.(But we are talking a nice chunk of change right off the bat.)

i used and enjoyed it when it came with the narrower stones. the new ones are too wide for my recurves. similar ones you might want to check out are the lansky and the dmt aligner.

I recently tossed my Smith's system in the trash. It never produced very good results and was a pain to setup. I replaced it with a Spyderco Sharpmaker about a year ago. Now all my knives are shaving sharp with very little effort. The only other sharpening device I own is a cheap, long, narrow, extra coarse diamond stone that I use to re-profile new blades so they match the Sharpmaker angles. I use heavy rubber bands to strap the diamond stone to the Sharpmaker ceramic rods. Once the edge angles are correct I remove the diamond stone and sharpen with the ceramic. I picked up that great little tip here on Bladeforums.

Excellent results and just like Geico Insurance....."so easy, a caveman could do it."

Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.
