hey all - currently have a DMT aligner (with extra coarse, coarse, fine, and extra fine stones) and am very close to picking up a sharpmaker, which together should cover all of my needs short of freehand sharpening with bench stones. my question is for someone just looking to start out learning to freehand sharpen with stones, is the smith's tri hone sharpener a good option to start? i'm looking for something affordable to learn on, but of acceptable quality. the reviews i've seen seem decent for this product, and the price certainly is right. not interested in putting a lot of money into it at this point as the system sharpeners should have me covered, just want to expand my abilities and learn something fun.
