Smithy?

Anybody use the Smithy machines? How is their quality? Also, how necessary is a metal lathe? Should it be one of the last things I get? Would a miniature one suffice? As you can see, I am just getting started. Maybe over the next 20 years I will develop enough talent to make knives in retirement...

I've had a Smithy CB 1220 XL for about 4 years and I haven't had any problems. In fact I would hate to be without it now. I didn't use the lathe much until I started making folders. The quality seems good but its not a real heavy duty mill. If you are just starting out I personally would spend the money somewhere else.
