I am heading down to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in the morning, on the way home I am planning on stopping at Smoky Mountain Knife Works. I am going to try to control myself...lol...but it will be very tempting. Has anyone been there, and what did you think of the place? Is an hour enough time...or do I need to plan for more?

I have been there and I had a great time looking around and finally buying a Kershaw Leek. I heard that they added on to the building to house a knife museum since I have been there (about 5 years ago). I would allow more time than an hour personally, especially if they added on to the building. Hey, I live in Ohio too, pick me up on your way there :) Have a great time, Pigeon Forge is a fun and very tourist friendly town.

No trip to the Smokies is complete without a stop at SMKW. Incredible place. Combination museum and knife store. 3 floors of knives and some pretty good deals!

They have some really good collections on display in the store plus the new National Knife Museum on the mezzanine. There is even a working knife shop in the parking lot that is operated by a co-op of knife makers.

No, but I order from them all the time, I wish to eventually travel down there myself on vacation and hit up the knife store...But who knows when, lol...I guess my wallet will let me know, lol...

Fun place to visit. Recommended if you're in the area.

Better plan on spending the better part of a day there, you won't get much past the door in an hour. That place is huge, you can't possibly see everything you want to see in anything close to an hour. Last time I was there I spent almost half an hour just checking out the antique German pearl handled pocket knife displays. :)

Great place to visit. Takes a bit of time to see everything, but you can move faster if you just skip the areas that have the United/Fury stuff in them.

I have been to their older store, and the new one shortly after it opened. Haven't been back in a long time.

I have been there, go there every year. You will have to let me know if the knife museum is open yet. When I was there last (August 06) they were still working on it. It is alot of fun, but don't get too excited about it, they have alot of cheap UC stuff there, it is almost like a big knife museum, very clean and alot of decorations and displays.

Someone once speculated to me that they were almost certain that SMKW has the highest concentration of Chinese made products south of the Mason-Dixon line. :) Irregardless, I have always enjoyed my visits there. A "must" on any any knifenut's itinerary.

The second floor knife museum is the coolest. It has collections of knives from many different parts of the world and from different time periods.

Also has a few Moran knives, Gil Hibben custom stuff and some Ruanas etc.

My father visited there recently coming back from a fishing trip. He also told me that they now have built on to the building, and now have a shop with guys in there making knives.

I was there a few years ago and had a BLAST. I spent the whole day there and spent way to much money... I would definitly advise going there if you are in the area. Im actually going up there this summer for a family vacation. Ill see if I can get some pictures and do a report on it.

Fun place but no Benchmades! Good source for some middle of the line stuff and a whole lot of crap.

I Was there for four hours and still wished i had more time. I was completely amazed and my billfold was amazed after i left. lol Have a great time

Thanks folks...omg...I am in SO much trouble...I better plan on more time and more money...lol. I can't wait!

I was there last july, I go just about every year & love it. You can find some good deals but you will also see a lot of cheap junk too.
You'll need to plan more than an hour for this store & some extra knife cash:D .
Have fun, be safe , & God bless.;)

I live about 150 miles North of Knoxville so when ever I'm close by I stop in. I think its awesome store and I can spend hours in there.
