So I was looking around on Smokey Mountain Knife Works website under buck knives and I came across this knife. And was wondering if this in a new nail nick or has this been done or is this some SMKW exclusive blade type? (It sorta looks like the 119/120 groove, very interesting)

David is correct in his ID. This must be a SMKWs special order, is it in the new BUCK catalog? Long nail 'pulls' were found on most 1900's folding knives, sort of a industry standard. They were stamped in the blade as its shape was stamped out. Small nail nic's are usually cut in after some degree of blade shaping has occurred. More toward the middle or end of the blade making process. Some of you correct me but I don't think a 110 ever had a long pull, it went from no nic to small nic. Small nic's are usually ground by auto machine. You can easily see this operation if you ever get to take the tour of the Buck factory.
Wonder who came up with the idea for the 110 pictured ? Long nics were on the 307s only because Camillus made them. In the 300s at least all Buck made models were always small nail nics......In the past long pulls were talked about weakening the spine of a blade. I have never seen that or even any photo evidence. I like long pulls, one reason there are no grind marks showing...300

The script BUCK nickel silver inlay logo knives have been Smoky Mountain exclusives. There have been a number of them over the years. Interesting nic. I'm going to order one.

I always thought a 110 with a fuller on both sides instead of a nail Nick would be cool, and ambidextrous. This knife is halfway there.

I'm no engineer, but I don't think it will weekend it. Makes the blade like an "I" beam.

Strangley now an "H" looks more like an "I" beam.

Sweet knife. A bit too steep for me for a 110 :(, but man I love the look of that long pull.

My brother gifted me the sample pink 112 back in March and I didn't notice anything odd about the nail nick. .I'm going to dig into the toy bag and take another look at it. I like it! Odd features have always important to me.. I just like having something different.

One thing I've always wondered about their buck inlays. Aren't they upside down. It doesn't follow the flow of the knife and I display my knives blade down. I have never bought one because of this.

Any one else see it that way?

Scale shield on Buck made 300s have always been mounted with blades up. One run of 312s were made with shield to the springs and is considered a oddball collectible. 300

Hasn't this knife been around awhile?

Makael, there was a 2 blade knife earlier this year with the same handles (not the nic though) Is this what you were thinking of? Same brown smooth bone handles. /Roger

Maybe someone will remember. I don't remember the long pull though. I did find some 112 with the same script but standard nail nick.

This one has been around awhile. There is no mention of the nail nick in the description on smkw. Has any one bought one?

So what does the nail nick look like in real life compared to the stock SMKW stock photos? Pictures?

Don't know yet, I finally got around to ordering one 2 days ago. Should be here soon and I'll post a picture on this thread if no one else does. I'm curious to see if the stock photo is accurate. I have 3 others from previous issues and the nail nicks are all normal crescents. /Roger

Ok gang, here it is! The long nail nic is real! The cosmetics and construction were perfect. I had a 10% off coupon from a previous purchase which sweetened the deal for me. The slot is crisp and deep, to me it looks formed and not machined. The handles are smooth bone with a nickel silver inlay. As usual, the logo is upside down. /Roger
