other than the obvious Becker area. Thier prices are not the best on Beckers though, but looking for some quality & value. What say you ?

We will be takin a trip over yonder in Tenn but will only be able to spend 1 day there. Don't want to miss the good stuff though. :D

Cheap machetes. Take a look at the Tramontinas and the Marbles.

They've got a good selection of Moras too. The Mrs. went wild in the kitchen gadgets. I had to drag her out of there.

Sadly they don't carry the Tramontinas any more, Just there in May. The museum is ok.

Geez, the whole store is a must see for a knife fan. Last time I was there I spent 4 hours in the store.

good price on the temagami, sales tax sucks, and it took forever to get the attention of 4-5 people just gabbing. shouldn't take 30+ minutes to buy something you want.

one thing i did NOT like: you choose something from a display and you want to buy it... sorry, you get something from backstock instead, and in the case of wood handles, and uniquely qualified items, you have to start over. seemed a bit rude.

also, almost all of their Condors have sheaths. except for the one i wanted to buy, and they didn't have anything suitable even as a substitute, so, they lost that sale too. would have bought more $$$ but they simply took longer than it would have for me to click on the internets (and free shipping, no tax)... it's a wonder people GO to stores anymore.

still, as a destination and tourist trap, it's amazing...

I could spend a whole day there too. But, it usually takes around 4 hours for me to run out of money.

I agree with Bladite about the box stock. ALWAYS ask to check the box stock they pull to take to the sales register. Once, I bought a Buck Nighthawk (right after they hit the market). I didn't check the box and went straight from SMKW to the Chimney Tops trail in the park. I opened my new knife to strap it on for the hike, and would you believe, I had a Buck knife that hadn't had any edge at all ground on it. Literally, a butter knife was sharper. I went back to the store the next morning and showed them the knife, and they said they would exchange it for anything that had the same cost, as they were out of stock (I bought the last one).

They do have food, they don't really want you leaving.:D

Great place to spend time. I been going since I was a kid, and there's just something about the place. First time I went, they had a bunch of guys making knives on the front porch, using large footpump stone grinders. Awesome.

The museum is upstairs, its worth a look. You can spend a whole day there, and not see everything.

Have some fun, and good luck, you're gonna need itl.

Thanks fellas, I will check the boxes. The blade sharpness does not concern me much on inexpensive knives, but if i buy a big ticket item, i want that sucker shaving what little hair i have left on my arms !!! LOL

I could have dealt with dull, but I mean that the initial grind for the edge wasn't even there. I know it was a fluke, as it's the only Buck I've ever handled that wasn't shaving sharp out of the box. But I check everything I can since then.

They have excellent prices on Condors.

According to my guy on the inside, they have prices that no one can touch on the Condor Stuff. Be sure and oogle the Gransfor Bruks stuff too, you probably won't see that much in a B&M shop anywhere south of Canada. :D

i forgot to check if their instore prices are the same as internet ;) but that 7% tax is hurtful, i tell you.

Um, 9.25% on non food items or luxury items. 7% on food only. Sucks, but hey, no state tax, just fed, and the register. :D

right, looking at wrong receipt :)

which still got me a better prime one the temagami than say, other online sources... but still, i was shocked to pay $12.50 in TAX on a stupid knife :)

that Condor Khurki was a great price at about $29? no sheath, tax, $32? er no. i can do that or better on amazon free shipping ;) just checking though, a lot of reviews are saying "broke", what's with that?

Amazon free shipping is tough to beat, but spotty deliveries on quality, from my experience. Been good and bad, too close to call. Buying at SMKW, I usually handle every bit of stock they have in the counter. A couple of times, I had them run some up from the warehouse, couple blocks away. They didn't get mad, but I'm sure they thought I was crazy, hell, I am. :D

I see broke sometimes, I figure HT and steel characteristics. Some good, some not so good. Its a coin toss, and I know QC has gotten better, but still a few make it through. <shrugs>
