So I picked up a spyderco smock and ordered a meton boss backspacer for it. The backspacer has no threaded holes and it looks to me that it can be installed by loosening the body screws on one side, slipping the spacer in and then tightening the screws. I really don't want to disassemble this knife just yet. Anyone know if this will work or do you have to remove the scale and liner on one side and go in from the top?

You’ll have to take the knife completely apart. It looks like it would slide over the screws but it will not. It’s not as bad of a knife as the pm2 or para 3 to disassemble. Just be careful not to lose the stop pin. If you lose the 2nd detent ball and spring, no biggie. The knife will function just fine

And watch for loctited screws. If it doesn't turn, don't try to force it, lest you strip the screwhead. Grab a heat gun and hit the spot to loosen the loctite.

Yeah a heat gun will keep you out of hot water with the missus, and also save a bunch of time. They are useful for quite a few things, and pretty inexpensive.

Soldering iron is much easier and less chance of damaging the rest of the knife. There's really cheap ones out there that will be more than enough. Got mine from lidl for less than $15USD, whole kit and temperature control. Of course I use it for soldering as well.
