I just got word from Darrel Ralph that Neil Ostroff had eye surgery today. I don't know the particulars about it yet, but if you are so inclined, please send smoke and prayers. Some of you may know him as the owner of True North Knives. Others of you might have met him at a knife show.

It's kind of funny how I met the guy. I found out that he would include Smarties inside the boxes of knives he'd ship to customers. I'm not talking about the mostly sugar Smarties. I'm talking about the Smarties that look like bigger versions of M&Ms. I used to eat this as a kid growing up overseas. I could never find them here down south in the States, so I asked where he got them. Neil said not to worry and that he'd bring a few bags for me to Bladeshow 2011. I was supposed to meet him on day 1 but got side tracked. Didn't end up meeting him til the third day, but by that point he was all out. I recall him having some choice words for me, jokingly of course. Neil's one of those guys that you meet for the first time and feel like you've known for a life time. He's just that personable. I will send prayers.

I had the pleasure of meeting Neil at Blade last year......He is a very nice chap.

Neil, I hope you have a speedy, painless and full recovery.

Best wishes from the bottom of the planet........

Ditto ... and he was a splendid fellow. Smoke and prayers going up from Virginia.

Hopefully he just had cataract surgery. That's the most common procedure done in the US these days (we will all need it eventually). Very low risk/complication rate and he will be fine in only a couple days and seeing distance like a teenager. Hope that's the case anyway.
