Mykel called me this morning. He is in the hospital (has been since last Friday). He has been diagnosed with a rare disease, Guillain Barre Syndrome, which affects the nervous system. He has no feeling in his hands or legs. He will be in the hospital at least 2 weeks, then will move to a nursing home for about 6 months for treatment and therapy. Please keep Mykel in your thoughts and prayers.

This is terrible! Prayer and good thoughts heading your way.

Had he been in Central or South America?

No. He was not feeling good, numbness and dizziness, so ended up at the hospital where the diagnosed it.

Smoke sent up!

My brother had GBS in high school. He was given a similar prognosis before they started plasmapheresis. He was out of the hospital in 10 days. Back to normal in a month. I hope it goes that way for mykel.

My brother had not been to zikaland.

My brother has it and it is pretty much under control. He was diagnosed probably 20 years ago.

My best to Mykel, much hope for good outcome from the treatment and therapy. There are encouraging words above from experience. Take heart.

Hate to hear the bad news. Smoke sent and positive thoughts going out to Mykel.

Prayers and good wishes sent for brother Mykel!

Prayers on the way. Mykel will beat this.

holly cow, did't realize there was aa thread over here too, thnx John and the rest of ya'll.
I'm working out and getting stronger everyday, so it's just a mater of time before I'm back on my feet.
No idea why the GBS hit me Rich, I've not traveled more than a couple hundred miles from home in a long time and haven't had any infections.
just lucky.

Keep it up brother!

My wife's uncle had it in Colombia, knocked him down for awhile, but he's much better now.

Only thought of it as a latin america thing...shows how much I know!
