One of my best friends is in a diabetic coma right now in a local hospital. Her daughter found her, and called the ambulance for her. She is hell on wheels, not afraid to speak her mind, and a damn good person. We did not know she was diabetic, she might not have known either. Her sugar has been brought down, severely high, to just high. Her name is Gisele, and she is good people. She has four grandkids and a daughter, all living with her.

Thank you.

Thank you. Diabetes is an epidemic. I am fat and diabetic, and take medicine, could take better care of myself. Man, she smokes, she eats bad food, but she isn't fat. Another friend is skinny as a rail, takes good care of himself, and has diabetes too. It doesn't discriminate.

After ten years, you'd think I would've gotten my ass in gear. I'm really worried about her.

Best wishes from another diabetic. (My BS* is under control)

*That's Blood Sugar just in case someone gets the wrong idea.

Same here:eek::o (and I have family history of diabetes :( )
I sort of "ignored" the fact that I was diabetic for a while

At least now she can address her diabetes. That is the 1st step...imho

Like Trent, I too have a family history of diabetes. My maternal grandfather had it and he was thin all of his life. I also have known two people who have died from complications arising from diabetes. Thin, fat, tall, short, white, black--it does not matter, diabetes is a killer waiting for an opportunity. Please keep us apprised of your friends condition.

I'm very sorry to hear this, Dan. I had a similar experience with an uncle of mine. For a while we didn't think he was going to pull through. They were able to get his blood sugar down and thankfully he survived the ordeal. Seeing him now, you would never have any idea that it had even happened. I hope your friend has the same type of recovery. Both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks everyone. I guess no news is good news, we are trying to get in contact with her daughter.

We have heard everything from kidney and pancreatic failure, to she is just unresponsive right now.

Smoke and prayers for your friend. My older brother is a diabetic. He has been hospitalized with pancreatitis twice in the last three years. Very scary when someone you care about has a serious health issue. Keep us posted.

She is doing much better, able to communicate through eye and contact with her daughter. Able to respond to questions with eye movement. I am really worried about her kidneys, she had a transplant earlier this year. It is tough to filter through all the information, but at least she is doing better.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it.
