At the beginning of this year my Sister-in-law, Jeni, moved into a cute little place in Laguna. From her balcony you can watch the sun set over Catalina. From day one she's had problems with the woman who lives next door. This woman has stolen the bulbs from her porch light and screamed at her. The day before Easter we were celebrating her Mom's B-day and the woman screamed at my niece's kids and brandished a knife. That landed her in jail for the night and Jeni got a restraining order. This Wed. night the woman broke in and attacked her. Jeni's face is bruised and swollen, she's got scratches on the back of her neck, some of her hair is torn out and she's got a broken foot. Jeni talked to the DA and charges are being filed. Please keep her in your thoughts.

smoke sent bro...

+1 what hunter said about the shotty...a nice 20 gauge or 410 double can pretty much fix any social problem she has at close range

Smoke from Atlanta. Sounds like that woman needs to be locked up! While a gun is a comforting idea, I'd get a baseball bat and tell the cops it belonged to my kids. You can do a lot of "convincing" with a BB.

We are off to the Blade Show.

You got it, Frank. :( Maybe loan Jeni something non-lethal, it's obvious this person is mentally ill. She'll be locked up for good eventually, but probably only after more bizarre/dangerous behavior. Get ready for it.

Pepper spray or 50,000-volt shocker come to mind.

It's sad when mentally ill people are killed- our cops shot a naked guy last year who ran from a convenience store clutching loaves of bread, for some reason. They tasered him more than once, then shot him with .40's. Sad.

Prayers. Mike

Baseball bat or pepper spray sounds like a good idea. I had heard once that the basic stun-gun (not professional tazer) wasn't worth it and that ppl had tested it on themselves and been ok. I tried it and they were right - it was startling and painful, but not that big a deal. Pepper spray on the other hand, I have no intention of testing on myself.

Prayers and smoke.

I think she's going to be staying with her folks for a while. A big Mag-lite would look innocent enough but still pack a whollop. Maybe a Surefire with the cookie cutter bezel, although that doesn't look so innocent. Months ago I said
"You know what Jeni needs?"
"Curtains?"
"A machete"

When I found out Thur. I was seething. I know Jesus, the Buddha, Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. said not to repay violence with violence. I keep telling myself that. But if this was the wild west...

Sounds she needs a few khukuris in her room, though. I always have one besides my bed for unwanted guests.

Household amonia in a spray bottle or squirt gun will work fine until she can get something better. I've used it to stop vicious dogs.

Prayers from Taiwan.

If I had a restaining order and she broke into my house her family would be burying her dead ass.

Prayers and peace from Reno

Smoke for her-tell her to get a 12ga. and put up to get some beanbag rounds like the cops use for non-lethal encounters, but back it up with a side saddle full of "00" buck...if it goes too far -fin-

Mental illness is something that should be taken very seriously. Munk has worked with the mentally ill and can probably tell us some stories.

Many of the gentle people here have offered advice on non-lethal defensive items. I would advise being very careful with those.

Mike, a similar thing happened up here. There was a deranged naked guy cavorting on the freeway. In our case the cop went up to reason with him. The deranged fellow took the officers gun and killed him with it.

This woman has already brandished a lethal weapon, violated a restraining order, broken into a house, and beat someone. No matter how petite/cute/mentally ill/pitiful/etc. she is, she is also dangerous. That is something those exposed to her should not forget.

Spraying her with pepper spray or equivalent tactics with questionable stopping power could be a very costly mistake.

Howard's right.

So is Tom Militano!

When we had an actual deranged person on our street, and he swerved his car to try to hit an old lady walking a schnauser, I put 5 rounds of "0" buck in the Benelli and kept it loose until he was relocated.

Nutjob gets killed, sad. But be a victim- never.

Mike

just lit two, for good measure.

12ga. beanbags are good 'cos you can put one or two in the mag and fill the rest with buckshot..if the one or two do nothing then one load of buckshot sure as hell will.

Smoke up.

I have a spare ball peen hammer if *you* would like to borrow it.
