Stopped by smkw a few days ago and saw they were selling Chris reeve knives. I think it is pretty cool, but i herd people talking about the knives saying smkw was ripping people off. What do you guys think?

(p.s. i know smkw isnt ripping people off)

I say people who buy Kershaws at WalMart have no idea what a CR knife cost.

I'll bet someone had a smartphone. All they had to do is google it.

But when people try to show how smart they are, it usually backfires.

SMKW does rip people off when it comes to a lot of knives, but I bet they sell CRKs at MSRP like everyone else, which would make them one of the few knives that aren't a ripoff at their prices. If that's the case, it's pretty funny that people were saying what you heard :p

I hit SMKW at least once a year. I appreciate the heads up! I'd like to see what CRK's they have before I buy another! Oh, and most of the folks walkin' around in SMKW don't know a nice knife from a hole in their head.

SMKW does not rip people off. It is true that you can find prices that are often a little cheaper at other online retailers. But they have a very large store and numerous employees as opposed to some of onlne folks who pretty much are often a two man show.

SMKW----it is what it is. You don't have to go there. No one is forcing you to go there. Yes, they charge more for some things than other places. But you can also go there & check things out BEFORE you buy. Can't do that online. It is a store like any other, designed to make money. Lets face it 90% of people could not tell you the difference between a good knife & a cheap import. Many of their employees can steer these 90% to something that will fit their bill. It is a little overwhelming when you go there, if you don't know your knives.

SMKW is one of, if not the largest knife retailers on the planet. They have the money/clout to commission exclusive runs from companies like Case, as well as start their own lines of knives made in China.

That said, as long as they continue to sell Nazi crap, they'll never see a single cent of mine.

I live about 20 minutes from SMKW and go there often. It is true that nearly any knife you find there can be had cheaper online. However, you have to remember that they are a "brick and mortar" knife retailer and the largest in the nation at that. Huge overhead costs mean that they must sell products at increased prices over those found on the internet. It is the nature of business. What they can provide over online retailers, though, is an "experience" that can't be duplicated when purchasing knives from your computer. Any knife lover who's been there can attest to that.

Exactly. "Tons" of Chinese crap there!!

Considering nearly every major knife manufacturer has outsourced at least some of their production to china, including America's most beloved brand Buck, (some almost if not entirely exclusively) it's impossible to avoid a bunch of Chinese made Knives in a large retailer of Knives, especially that scale... (And the fact they do appeal to a large(r) crowd and sell, it would be stupid from a business aspect to not offer them.))

That said, the 4 most common online places I purchase my Knives from are BladeHQ, Knifecenter, knifeworks, and SMKW, (and also that place that shall not be named to avoid breaking the forum rules). Whenever I decide on a knife I like I check around for the best deals, and all 4 have at times, on different brands and models, come through (online at least) as the cheapest dealer at one point or another...

Well, do tell? ;) They sell better or higher grade stuff too. I bought my first couple of Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) knives there and likely would have been hesitant to purchase them otherwise at that stage of the game. I met the Daniels there for the first time. Their manufacturer rep weekend is definitely fun and interesting to attend and I believe it is in October.

If I were them, I'd sell a ton of Chinese made knives as they are providing knives and other items retail to a wide variety of potential customers from children getting their first pocket knife or scout knife to people who are much more experienced and better versed on what is available. Rough Rider is one of their brands. They also carry a pretty good selection of Condor products that you can touch and feel which I think is worth something.

May just have to stop by in the next few days as I will be passing by there on my business travels.
