Just got the current SMKW's Catalog and I noticed they are showing a Vanguard and Zipper knock-off made by Frost. :grumpy::thumbdn::grumpy::thumbdn:
Kinda pissed me off!!!

I saw that too! It sucks other companies can't come up with their own ideas for knife designs.

Yep Flat that pisses me off too!I saw the Buck skinner, the only one getting skinned with that thing is the consumer. They should call it the 35th anniversary people skinner with a disclaimer(you have been skinned for $14.99).

Now, let's count the 110 rip-offs. Oops.... that number may be as high as our national debt!!

Personally I'd be hard pressed to buy a Frost Cutlery knife.
I see them on the knife shows and they don't look too bad,
but then when I see them in person.....OOh Weeee.......they
feel like something I've stepped in out in the dog walk area.
All these knock offs attract are people that don't know. Why
anyone would buy a cheap knock off when they could buy the
real thing for a few dollars more is beyond me......It has to be
they just don't know any better.
Regards Sonny

The one Frost knife I bought was back when I was about 15 or so...that's all it took. The perils of mail order.

I guess my main issue is with SMKW's for putting the damn things in a catalog and making them available for sell. Which brings me back to my first thought about SMKW, which is they seem to be slipping into being retailers of Chinese made junk knives. That's to bad really.

I have bought from SMKW for the last 15 years. Yeah, they have a lot of junk. They even have more than they used to. They even sell Frost knives in a package of 100, kind of like they do on TV.

But, they also sell good brands, sometimes they sell knives made just for them. Buck has a few exclusive knives that are made for them. They also sell, special order knives from top brands.

My guess is, when I go to the BCCI meeting next week, I MIGHT look at some of the interesting knives in the store.

As far as Frost Cuterly, not sure why are still around, I guess there is a market for buying low end knives.

When I was living in Hawaii, I was doing an outdoor project with a group of people that required using knives. The head person was using a cheap knife, and made the claim " why sharpen a knife, when this one gets dull I can just buy another one". Go figure. They did notice that I had done more cutting than any one else, of course I had one of my 110's that I was using, that I sharpen. HL

Now frost cutlery makes knifes in several different countries. The ones that I have seen that are made in Japan are very good quality. The ones that are made in Pakistani are nothing but scrap metal looking like a knife.

We should keep in mind that SMKW has a great history and has been trusted for many years.......and that selling some percentage of cheap knives may be a necessity in today's market.

But I agree we should let them know that we are somewhat pissed.

I've never seen where thier prices were anything to write home about. I watched their show on TV one night for 3 hours and saw the Buckscript 110
and 1 other:mad: I remember reading here on the forum someone from Buck, CJ I believe, speak hightly of them, thier knowledge of Buck and the amount of product they sell. They gotta stay afloat and Buck can afford to loose large volume sellers. So I guess we gotta deal with stuff like this. Same as dealing with imported knives that have a higher profit margin to pad the coffers.

I get the catalogs and flyers all the time. I usually check out the Bucks and then toss it in the recycle bin. I tried watching the show a couple of times but the "good ol' boy" show routine (:barf:) soon had me looking for the remote.;)

What's really sad is that there is a market in this country for the stuff, if no one bought it, they wouldn't sell it.

I have always been happy with SMKW's and I would think Buck was also for them to hold a meeting there.

That being said, I do think it's jacked up that they are selling knock-offs! For those of you going if you politely express your displeasure with them it may help to change their course some. I would let them know in person but can't make it.
