Hi all, this is my first post, and if I am violating any forum rules I apologize. If my news is old, I apologize again.:)

I really love this site, especially the Buck forum. I have spent an embarrassing amount of time :D looking at pictures of all the beautiful customs and so on...

I have picked up two Bucks recently at great prices so I thought I'd share. I guess they are discontinued which is the reason for the discount?

The first was a Mayo Hilo from Cabela's bargain cave. Under 25$ with shipping for an awesome knife! I know it's a China model but the Buck quality is there IMO. I think they are all gone now but the Northshore model is still available.

Then, last night I was clicking around on SMKW and I see the Sirus deep platinum for $29.99 with shipping! I may have damaged my wallet pulling out the credit card so fast! I had been looking at that knife for awhile, and was surprised to see that the DP model is no longer on the Buck website.

Anyways, I was so thrilled with the Sirus that I had to come on here and post.:o If anyone has any feedback on the Sirus, that would be great. I've tried searching the site using Google, with so so results...

Hello and welcome to the forums! :)
Sounds like you got some nice bargains for sure. I checked and Buck still makes the 295 Tempest in Deep Platinum but not the 297 Sirus.
Both great knives and if I can offer any advice....dont take it apart!
I know that to most guys that is percieved as a challange but trust me, you dont want to take it apart. Yes it is cool how it works but not worth having to send it back to Buck for reassembly. :)
Have fun with your new knives and I hope we will see more posts from you in the future.

Sirusly, I only have two Sirus line Bucks. They are both 298GY ATS-34. Faintly scribed with "CJ Buck '05"...guess his engraving gun was sputtering outta juice.
Anyway, I got the first one from BBF Larry on this forum. Liked it so much that I begged for his second one just in case I lost or messed up the first.

Great knife.

O.K., got the new Sirus. I love the knife overall, and I'd recommend the model for sure, but I don't like the safety latch for a multitude of reasons. I know it will void my warranty, but I would like to take the knife apart and remove the safety locker (I know Joe, I'm a knucklehead):D. Has anyone done this? Is it really that hard to reassemble one of these "asap" models?

Thanks

Does that safety latch stay up out of the handle when the knife is open? I would think it would be uncomfortable to hold if it did.

It does stay right in the way. The latch is open in Buckaholic's pic, but even with the latch down, it's still obtrusive. It is a strong, effective design though, don't get me wrong there.

Here's a set of 298GY ATS-34 Sirus knives.
Both are shown with the latch down (safety "on").

It's wierd that at first I thought it would be in the way, but ya don't notice it after awhile. When gripping, the latch seems to nestle in the fold of the forefinger where it meets my hand. Now, if I grip hard on it...you know it is there...but what is worse is the liner lock serrations. Like pressing down on 'gator teeth with your forefinger.
Try that and let me know if you agree Jonnyfgroove.

So far as taking it apart, I wouldn't. But I'm no rocket scientist. Maybe ya should try using it or a few days first and see if you get used to it. IF I wanted to "fix" that latch so it didn't bug me, I would prob grind/bevel it down before I did surgery on it.

^^ Haha, you're right Buckaholic, when I put a good grip on it, I notice the liner lock serrations more than the safety latch. I'm going to give it more time like you suggested, once the operation of the latch is second nature, I probably will not even notice it anymore. Thanks again. The latch is not "right in the way" like I stated earlier, it just sticks up on an otherwise clean line along the spine.

Anyways, the knife is awesome, I happened to find a good deal on this one, but I would be more than happy if I'd paid full price too.

Hmm... I may have to pick up a spare. I hate being w/o a knife.

I just got my 298GY ATS-34 back from warranty service - the spring broke after 2 years of service. :(

But, it took less than a week to get back to me! Buck's warranty rocks! They even sharpened my chipped blade for me - it's never been this sharp, even new out of the box...
