First night of our first trip to New Orleans. Enjoyed a great dinner at Atchafalaya in the Garden District. Put the girls to bed and now having a cigar and bourbon outside the hotel.

One of the pleasures of traveling is meeting new people. Just had a great conversation with a gentleman from Texas who is a oil drilling specialist. No college education, but he has traveled the world for 40 years putting his skills to use. His last trip in May was to Kurdistan. Funny thing, he felt safer there behind five rings of security then on a previous job near the Texas/ Mexico border.

Sounds like the beginning of a good trip. Post more pics. Oh and get some chicory coffee. I love the stuff.

Sounds awesome Guy. I love a good cylindrical salad and a bourbon!

C'est Bon!

I would strongly reccomend checking out Cafe Du Monde at around 2-3 am, it'll cure what ails you after too many hand grenades, daiquiri's, abita's and bourbons!
And by all means, sample some of the fine Creole cuisine- NOLA has plenty of outstanding places to stuff your face (Though I've rarely been sober enough there to remember any names....)

Enjoy, and Laissez les bons temps rouler!

For a late night snack, stop by Ali Baba (on St. Peter's just off Bourbon) for the best Gyros in town, and open very late. For something with a more local flavor during the day, try Johnny's Po Boys (St. Louis just off Decatur). And if you've never had good sushi in a mall, check out Jazz Sushi in Jackson Square (really good and really reasonably priced).

There are, of course, lots of great places to eat for a bit more (or a lot more) money, but those are three inexpensive places that I like to visit when I'm in town.

Court of Two Sisters for brunch can't be beat after a night of carousing. It is on Royal

Muffaletta from Central Grocery on Decatur

The Joint has some fantastic BBQ- Mazant

Emeril's is an experience if you can get in without a reservation

Cafe du Monde is a must, but I prefer Cafe Beignet on Bourbon

Hurricane from Pat O'briens on Bourbon

WW2/D-Day museum is worth the visit- Magazine St

Have fun!

I'll second the recommendation for Court of Two Sisters for brunch, but I'd pick Johnny's Po Boys over Central Grocery for the Muffaletta every time. It's just around the corner and a lot better, IMO.

Cafe du Monde is a must for sure, but last time I was there (which was just a couple weeks ago), there was always a long line. I've been there dozens of times over the years, and I'd never seen that before.

I don't think I've been to Pat O'Brien's in 30 years, but I'm sure it hasn't changed a bit. You've got to do it at least once.

Frenchman street just a block or so from French Quarter has a bunch of nice places to listen to live music. It's like a Bourbon street for 40 year olds.

Avenue Pub on St. Charles for beer and bourbon if you are a beer snob. Best beer bar in the city.

Happy now?

Spent a little time in the French Quarter today before the ladies legs gave out. Resinwife with her bad back I can understand, but apparently 18 year old resingirl has no stamina. Did enjoy Cafe du Monde. Liked the muffuletta at Central Grocery, but as it was our first, we have no basis for comparison. Have heard that Cochon Butcher has a great one, will try to get there. Pretty good Vietnamese tonight at Magasin.

Tomorrow is shopping on Magazine St and exploring Lafayette #1. And eating, of course. May try to get over to Frenchmen St after dinner for some music

The WWII museum is def on my list, but that could take me all day. So much to do, not enough time.

Drinking and smoking cigars outside of hotels seems to be common practice for the Busse crowd. :)

Enjoying a locally rolled cigar, then back to the Spotted Cat for another set.

On the beach, listening to the surf in Panama City Beach, with a La Flor Dominicana and bourbon.

Back on the beach after a walk. Enjoying a leftover mufalletta from Cochon Butcher.
