I have one of these coming in (new condition, tan handles) and was wondering if anyone had any idea about how many were made like this before they were changed to the crinkle coating.

Wow, this is new to me. I didn't think any NO's were made with the smooth coating. An older advertisement from that era doesn't have the NO listed.

You better post a pic when it arrives :)

Yep, there were some smooth E's made. Interestingly, there were also some factory crinkle-coated straight handles too.

I don't think the number of the smooth E's is very large, but have no idea about an exact number. You've certainly got a rarity there :D

Is the handle dropped more than the later E's? The VERY first E's were like that (something like 13). If that is the case, you've got an EXTREMELY rare knife.

and to thinkthat I thought that I had a line on that knife. :(

I remember seeing a photo in an older Blade magazine article when the N.O. was introduced at the Blade show, which showed it with smooth coating. As soon as I saw the photo I ordered my first N.O., but when I got it, it had crinkle coating. When I get it ( should be this week) I will compare handle drop. Thanks for your answers so far.

John

I imagine the 1st batch of NOs were all smooth coated.
