My '99 CQC-7 just arrived and it's a beautiful knife. It just came back
from the Emerson spa where a new edge was put on it and early lockup
adjustment.
It's new to me from another forum member but what I wanted to know
is, was the G-10 of old this "smooth?" It doesn't have the grip that some
of the new ones do. Was it once so or did they just make 'em this way
from the factory back then? Thanks.

the texture has varied some over the years, but it is typcial of the older models to have smoother scales.

my 99 has very little texture now, partly from use, and partly because it was less aggressive nib.

Yup, some are smoother than others but they all have texturing of some sort.

I have seen tight weave and loose weave G-10 on EKIs, the tight weave texture does feel "softer".
