So I read an update in Becker West Gathering about a box of goodies from KaBar which included a 'smooth coated stamped BK15' and I says 'yeah, right, I ain't falling for no banana in my tailpipe!"

But today Jonny1280 starts a GAW featuring a 'limited run' 'smooth coated, stamped version of the BK15' 'autographed by Ethan Becker'?!

wait WHAT?

Limited run? Does that mean it's a pre-production piece? Or has KaBar gone back to stamping and using the smooth coating?

You got it right. It's one of the few that didn't get sent to smokey Mountain Knife, So it doesn't have " first production run" engraved onto the opposite side. Jonny asked Ethan if he could have one of the contest prize knives signed to do a giveaway. The signature is kinda light because those silver sharpies suck.

So now they're not being discontinued? Or were these new, old stock from the original issue?

I believe Faler is correct.
These smooth coated, stamped 15's were from the "limited edition" run that SMKW sold.
Except these were not laser engraved and I've only seen a few slip into the hands of the public.
Maybe Ka-Bar had a small stash left over that didn't go to SMKW?....
Very rare indeed.

As I was holding one of the BK16's, and I swore I heard Ethan say He asked the guys at KaBar to go back into the deep dark hole were they kept these and bring a few out to play. He said something like that but, I was too blown away to be getting one to really listen to close.

These are new old stock with the older smooth coating and the stamp, not the laser engraving.

I can only imagine what's hiding up in that little closet/attic/hole...
