smoothing Avalanche grips?

So I've got a recent vintage Avalanche. I like it a lot - that S30V blade was really sharp, right out of the box. Assisted opening is neat, too. The grips, however, are a little too sharp for my taste. They hang up on my jeans or khakis whenever I try to carry it. I'm sure they'd wear spots in my pants if I let them.

Has anybody smoothed these out? I was thinking I'd rub them a little on some 320 sandpaper. I guess I'll pop the scales off to keep dust out of the action. And I know to avoid breathing the G-10 dust. Anything else I should know about?

Thanks, DutchV

Hey Dutch, before ya go sanding on the scales, how tight is the clip? I ask because you might be able to bend the clip a little, still have good grip in your pocket, and not have to sand down the scales.

I've done this before on two Kershaws: the Groove and the ENER-G's. I was able to bend the clip out a little and it still stays snug.

I wouldn't bother taking the scales off. Just a light...really light sanding
should fix it right up for ya. Just do a little at a time until it's at the smoothness
you like.

And don't breath in the G10 particles...;)

I sanded mine just on the clip side. I just knocked the "tooth" off it is much better now. It didn't take very much sanding at all to get it where it will come out of the pocket nice and smooth.

Hadn't thought of sanding just the one side. Might have to try that first. It's a user, after all, not a safe queen.

Really there's no reason to do the whole side. Just take the clip off, lightly
sand where the clip touches the G-10...see how that works for ya.

This is a good idea. I think the Avalanche is a very underrated knife, that seems to fly below the radar.
