Hi all. How many spyderco models incorporate the bushing / pivot system as used on the manix 2, or open just as smoothly ? I just feel I have tasted the good stuff now and may find it hard to go back to lets say ,not so smooth / quick, blade deployment. THANKS FARON , HAVE A NICE DAY.

I think the only 2 knives using that bushing system right now are the Manix 2 and Para 2. However, there are some other extremely smooth knives.

The Sage 3 is incredibly smooth. Probably smoother than the Manix 2, or maybe any other Spydie I own. The Sage I (and I assume the Sage 2) is very smooth as well. Pretty much any Spydie liner lock-My Military and Michael Walker are also extremely smooth to open, as is my Caly 3/3.5 and Stretch 2.

I think practically any Spyderco can be made to be very smooth with the right adjustment and possibly some lubrication. But in particular, the Ball lock, liner locks and comp. locks seem to be the smoothest (as well as the new Bolt Lock).

Sage 3, Gayle Bradley are some of the smoothest I've currently got. Surprisingly, the Dragonfly 2 also opens/closes very nicely!

like other said the pivot bushing is not what makes the knife smoother. it just finds the sweet spot for you. smoothness will depend more one the lock mechanism, right tension and break in. CBBL and BBL are probably the lock that put the least resistance on the blade tang. liner and RIL come next. compression not sure as there is no ball, i assume the surfaces in friction are more important.

Manix 2 can pass off as being assisted because it's so smooth!
Superleaf is very smooth as well, but it's a little behind manix2. Could it be due to the use of the white colour washers? I heard it's nylon...
Btw, how is sage 1 opening smoothness compared with manix2?

Not the GB. I thought I remembered that also, but there was a recent thread about this exact topic and I mentioned that I thought the GB had the new design. Someone said no, and I took one of mine apart to check - they were right, it does not have the new design.

I noticed this as well, and was (still am) surprised. I need to disassemble mine and see what's up. :)

Gayle Bradley is one of the smoothest opening knives I've ever owned. It opens like my old Sebenza.

I am not knowledgeable enough to distinguish the different pivot mechanisms (yet). But, my smoothest Spydies (in no particular order):

Gayle Bradley
Chokwe
Superleaf
Manix 2 (all five of them)
Sage (1, 2, and 3)

Nice to know there are plenty of slick spydercos ,to be added to my buying / consideration short lists. FARON
