Grabbed one of the buffalo horn (model 2301) large stockmans.

I have the yellow bone version made by Queen. Thought I'd get the Camillus-made version before the Camillus-made versions are all gone.

Has anybody heard whether Moore Maker is going to get Queen or another maker to keep producing these patterns?

I emailed Moore Maker with my question. Here was the response:

We have several other makers we are looking at, but it now seems as though Camillus is going to pull through. So hopefully it will not be necessary to change.

Phew, I hope they do!!!
They make some great stuff, and the slip-joint world wouldn't be the same without them.

I'm yet to hear anything to this effect, however, over on the Camillus board. I'd like to see them pull through as well, rather than become a clearing house for Chinese imports.

Well, hopefully they come out of it okay. I know the union has been on strike since last may. However, they still have been running, just not, "up to par".

Per some other posts on this forum, camilus recently lost their cold steel work due to an inability to fill orders. Probably Mooremaker has a pretty good reserve stock and can sit pretty for awhile.

I hope they pull through....I grew up in Central NY State......Camillus Cutlery ( a suburb of Syracuse ), Utica Cutlery.....Downstate at the base of the Catskills lies Ellenville ( former home to Schrade, new home to Canal Street )....the Southern Tier was were Case began....let's not leave out Ontario ! Dunno...guess it's just nostalgia....but one hates to see another knife manufacturer "bite the dust".....NY State has such a rich tradition of knife making.

It's just nostalgia fellas...it'll pass.

-my best

Regarding Camillus, seems their problems are union problems. My general feeling is that unions have outlived their usefulness and to a certain extent destroyed the competitiveness of many US industries. I don't know.

If you work a 40 hour week, have health benefits, a safe workplace and can only be fired for cause...thank the American Union movement. But then this has nothing to do with knives.

I live in the non union state of Florida, while farming for a living. Forgive me if I don't give much thought to unions. Everything I have accomplished is because of hard work and the blessing of our Lord.

My grandfather who I never had the opportunity to meet died from black lung after working in the coal mines of Pennsylvania from the age of 15. I would listen to my grandmother share stories of when the union would call for a strike and the town folks would go hungry while waiting for the strike to end. She would also explain how if you for some reason did not go along with the union that getting beat up or your house damaged was a common thing.

My grandfather died without a penny of the dues he paid for 45 years going to his health or welfare because of union chiefs wasting it away.

I understand your pride and accpetance of the union but I have to say that I do not agree with those feelings...

I can understand your feelings, and agree with a lot of what you say. It's just seams some of the youger generation don't realize what unions have accomplished. I'll say nomore of this because we are hijacking the man's post and I apologize for that.

Now that was very accurately put!.. Thank you sunburst for the reality check!

Wow, that is great news - pretty legit source.

What do you think about posting it on the Camillus board
as a new thread?

I did, but it turned into a thread about Becker BK-7's. :D

Don't know if the MM response was just being optimistic or not.

I've heard very little on the strike lately.

How can you be two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?
