There I was, happily browsing the Buck site, when I happened to click on the Web Specials. To my delight, I saw what is arguably my favorite knife of all, the BP Alpha Dorado. Now, I already have one, but I have a gut hunch that when they are gone, they will be gone for good. The price was very right, so I went for it.

Down at the bottom of the page, I saw the Cherry Wood Vantage Avid. I don't have one so I thought, what the heck and dropped the hammer on it too. It just so happened that I 'needed' a cap as well, so I ordered one in Burnt Orange. I had to pry myself away from the site, before I was lost in the abyss of acquisition. I am so weak...:o

So, unless something really good comes along (it always does), I will refrain from any more knife purchases until January...it is my Birthday! :D

What is the finish on those? CPM-154 is stainless..the blade looks almost as if it were blued...but you can't blue stainless... It's a very good looking knife.

I bought one of them also and suspected that it was intended for BP. You say you have one already and I'd like to know when BP sold them. There's no date stamp or even a model number on the one from the web specials page.

It is some sort of titanium aluminum nitride "coating" that is fused to the blade. Buck uses (used) a bunch of different titanium blends on different models over the years. I am not positive which the bass pro version uses, but it is tough.

Jim is correct, it is a TiAlNi coating and it is some pretty tough stuff alright. The coating is a shade lighter than on the AG series, at least it seems that way to me.

I think that BP offered the Alpha Dorado up to a couple of months ago and then it simply disappeared. Just going by the model number on the Web Specials page, it would appear that we are seeing a clearance of residual stock.:(

I would urge anyone on the fence, to jump on these while you can.

Dave, I just checked and my Alpha Dorado from BP is stamped 271 with a lazy 'T' (2006) on one side and Bos CPM154 on the other.

Cabelas AG now uses (for awhile now) DLC Black Widow Coatings. I am not sure if this is the same stuff or not either, havent done enough googling to find out LOL. Depending on when you bought your AG it may appear a tad different, but yes they are darker than the BP version.
