Snake Bite Cream

I hope it works. Unfortunately, even if it does, there will probably be a lot of resistance to it.

The concept seems sound. The FDA may be a big problem in this country, would like to see it approved

It's possible that this is only applicable to certain venom types. It's my understanding most of your snakes are haemotoxic, whereas our crawlies are neurotoxic. But it would be nice if it helps.

In any event, if the cream already exists and it is relatively inexpensive, you can look to it being reformulated by a pharmaceutical company. Then they will add lidocaine to it or something else to change the precise chemical composition of the cream and then they will patent that formulation and charge dearly for it. They do this constantly nowadays with a plethora of medications.

Since the cream acts to slow down the rate at which the venom is transported throughout the body, it should slow down any toxin moving through the lymphatic system. This is interesting as it might be used, in a wilderness emergency, to slow down the spread of something like blood poisoning.

Bo,

You might want to read the article again. The molecules of the venom tested are so large that they must be absorbed through the lymph system. Smaller molecules, venoms and poisons with smaller molecules, would be able to go right into the bloodstream as usual, etc.

Thanks, I missed the transition through the lymphatic system to the bloodstream.

Alot of the antivenom stuff isn't so clear cut. I like having a MD work on me when it is beyond my scope. Same with the engine in a car, I want a good mechanic. You can screw yourself up royally taking the wrong medication in the wrong dose.
