Hi, it maybe the best weather condition in Japan these days, not too hot nor cold.
Just a short period of days before entering rainy season (梅雨).

I've found a snake eating other snake in my guarden today.
The snake is the one found in my guarden regularly these several years.
Looks like they are working very actively.

Elaphe quadrivirgata (Japanese striped snake).
A very popular snake, especially in the suburbs. Not venomous.
I cannot identify the eaten one.

This is the overall scene.

Thanks for looking.

I just saw this exact same site here in the US two weeks ago while fishing. The snake eating was a common garter snake which looks almost identical to the one in your picture. In my situation I was also not able to identify the snake being eaten but I believed it to be a yearling of a rat snake.

Fantastic pics.

Its gotta be as long as the thing its eating! Crazy snake....it'll have jaw ache by the time its swallowed all that!! ;)

I used to raise and breed big snakes...they can eat some amazing things (size wise). I think one of the reasons that snakes are so feared has to do with how VERY different they are from us.

Those are some fantastic images...often the eater will release and flee when a person is present (at least they do around here).

Thanks for sharing!!

Amazing! Snakes always startle me when I find one, even the harmless ones. Thanks for the photo.

Great shots Fujita. I walked up on a black snake eating a large rat last summer, it's always interesting to watch them eat.

good photo , the most common situation we encountered when younger was the typical snake eating frog scenario. thanks for such an interesting pic.---dennis

Thanks, guys for kind words.

By several reasons I love snakes because..
1. They can go almost anywhere, rocks, sand, water, bush, trees. even some spices fly!
2. They can eat amazingly large (or long for this time) things.
3. They dont have to eat frequently.

Truly amazing creature they are.

Thanks, Brutane.
One of the remarkable things is that I get even more by posting here.
Garter snake and the one I posted both belong to the same family "Colubridae".

Hahaha. Thanks, scruffuk. Looks like it has almost the same length to the
eaten one. Maybe the first part swallowed is disintegrated in the stomach
that it can swallow almost anything.

Seriously I love snakes because they behave well beyond my imagination.

Well said, mistwalker and thanks for your words.
They really are great pest controllers.

Nice spot. Its amazing the things you see when you pay attention.

What you said, norcalblacktail and thank you for your favorable response.
