I have recently given in to my snake skin addiction, and I have picked up some beautiful pieces! Do any of you experienced/knowledgeable hogs know for sure how to preserve the vibrant colors of snake skin micarta? I have heard from some that oiling the scales lightly helps...and I have heard from others that it will slowly make the colors fade. Any recommendation as how to keep these snake skin beauties bright is much appreciated!

Hey Brendan,
Food grade Mineral Oil and fondle frequently Bro!!! That snake is something for sure.

I think we need to see some pics of these beautiful pieces before we can help.

I put a light coating of mineral oil on mine, just enough to make the colors pop. I think the colors only fade when they dry out. I am not an expert on this, so if somebody knows other wise please correct me, but as near as I can tell the red and brown colors in snakeskin seem to be a material similar to black paper. When they dry out they bleach out just like black paper does.

Mineral oil is great until it dries up. Some use Briwax after putting on the oil to make it last forever. No wax residue or anything like that, so don't worry. Im sure others have heard of this. Daniel Koster of Koster knives actually uses this on his micarta. my .2

Hey Dave, that sounds like a good idea. I think Brendan will like it also. Thanks,
