Ah poor old Samuel L. Jackson . Doomed to play second fiddle to a bunch of C:G:I: snake wizardry . Who am I kidding ? He may enjoy playing such roles . There are those among actors who relish in action movies . It mayhaps stirs their blood . Not that I have seen it . It does at least seem horrible enough to suit as some early halloween fare .
I am about to discuss what appears to be something more first string for him . It does seem he can break free of sensationalist films . This is a movie that I have only caught a few glimpses of . It is at least better than a movie critic who watches a few movies trailers and slams or praises what may be a fine offering or absolute disgrace .
I switched channels to this movie when it was well along in the plot .
The "Violin" I believe it is called . Samuel L. plays a bit more of a refined role in this . He repairs , researches the Provenance of and evaluates violins .
Before this is seen as a snooze fest there are interesting twists to the plot .
There are elements of absolute horror in the movie . They may even be better defined as depravity ? They do fit in with the plot . What I saw was neither gratuitous nor incongruous .
Certainly those among us who appreciate classical music may be taken aback
by the association between fine music and crime . In truth those with a touch of the macabre about them may see it a suffering for ones art . Well someone suffers anyway .
I deliberately turned it off so that I may watch it in its entirety . I did not want to destroy the illusion woven by some dream master . I hope that it proves to me at least that he has learned to enjoy some artistic freedom .
