I have seen some very vibrant Snakeskin handles out there. Are they all micarta or was Snakeskin made in G10 as well?

All micarta, there's a link at the Busse Combat site explaining the 'magic' snakeskin.

sometimes the colors vary a bit, and the "brightness" can vary as well.

some are polished, some are more of a rough cut.

Snakeskin and Tigerhide are both canvas micarta. And yeah, they can vary in color and pattern. The snakeskin today doesn't necessarily look exactly like the snakeskin in 2002.

For example: HOFSH is from 2002 and the CGFBM is from this year. Both have snakeskin slabs.

Gotcha. I think that I saw a nicely polished Snakeskin on an AD that got me thinking that it might have been G10.

Thanks for the good info.

Don't forget the Nukarta, like on the AD,s

Think that was just a Busse name for there micarta though. I've never really knew why they called it Nukarta??? Nuclear Micarta???

i believe that is correct.

nuclear+micarta=nukarta (with a "k" instead of a "c")

or nuke+micarta=nukarta. that makes more sense.

Isn't 2002 a bit early for the HOFSH? I was still getting E handles from the shop then.

I do agree about the SS though. No 2 of any I had in SS looked alike.

Now I gotta wonder if my first run AD is double cut and SS or DC and Nukarta. LOL

Mostly, it's just black from being worn.

It depends what YOU are calling "Snakeskin."

True "Snakeskin," as per Busse, is a canvas micarta that has 3 or 4 colors in it. The pictures above show them pretty well.

Tigerhide or Tigerstripe, as mentioned, is also canvas micarta.

There have been 3 or 4 multi-colored layered scales in G-10 which might be causing your confusion. (if you're confused, anyway)

There has been tan/black, (current rendition is more cream/black), red/black and green/black. There were a few red/blue for the FFBM's a little while ago as well.

So, what colors were in the scales that you're referring to ? If it's only two colors and not Tigerhide, then it's probably G-10

I think you are correct. I bought my HOFSH at the Company store sometime in the summer of 2005 and the HOFSHLE in October of that year.

Hmmmm....now that you mention it, 02 does seem a little bit early. Ergos were still going on then weren't they? Yeah, this may have been '04 and not '02. I'll check.....

I think there were some ergo's with snake skin.

I don't know if that goes back to '02 or if they were customs but I think snakeskin has been around since before the "new line"

Yep... my mistake. :o

FSH was first offered in 11/04. Well...there ya go!;)

This one, off of the Busse Collector (thanks Greg) website:

I was referring to the one and only Busse snakeskin, not some cheap organic knockoff worn by pythons, cobras, rattlesnakes, and various other slithery crawlers. :p

I believe you are right.

It certainly has gotten nicer it seems.

My AD was sold as DC/SS and looks very similar to Guyons in the 'stumpy' pic. The one in about the 8:00 position. No way as colorful as some of the others in the same pic or, the AD pictured above.

It may be Nukarta. Who knows? Still carries and cuts very well, thank you. Guess I won't give it to the paper girl after all.
