I love my Kershaw Tremor and have been wanting to trick it out for a while now, but have been hesitant due to the speedsafe feature. Doing all work by hand I find it is hard to mill out the needed areas. This weekend I figured out a way to work smarter....not harder
. Was able to do a reptillian pattern in royal blue G10 that turned out great. I figured I would just have it manual, as it does have a detent ball in the liner lock. Trouble is once I got it apart there was no detent hole in the blade....and drilling hardened steel on a blade that is very sharp is rather unappealing. here is what I ended up with:
Leaving it as a manual would be fine as long as you do tip up carry, so the blade rests along the edge of the pocket. Problem is the lack of detent hole allows the blade to pop open rather easily when out n about. Plus the scales were rather thin and left the frame screws protruding a bit, even when counter sunk. I figured I'd make some liners for it since I have some toxic laying around....,makes for a funky color combo...but it grows on you. Once i had the liner I figured instead of milling out the scale I could make a thicker liner on the speedsafe side and cut it out....much easier than milling by hand....after some careful measuring & cutting I ended up with a fully functional assisted open, along with a badass set of liners...+1 for Rival! While I may have voided the warranty on an awesome value folder, I ended up with one pimped out snakeskin Tremor
Game on!
