Can anyone provide their experience with snakewood and it's durability? Any issues? Thanks

I`ve seen shrinkage after only a few months, that`s one of the reasons I quit offering it. That, and the price!

I gave a snakewood scaled knife to my grandson, but while I owned it, the scales seemed to swell and shrink more than other wood handle knives I own. Perhaps the wood was not dried fully before I got it. I like the look of it tho

Snakewood seems to move a great deal! I have a good friend who made 2 snakewood handled knives, send one to me on the east coast and one to a friend on the west coast, both had to come back due to shrinkage.... lots of shrinkage! Now that mine was touched up and the blade was reduced to fit the scales, there is still movement. Even dry snakewood seems to move a great deal. I do love the stuff, it is super beautiful!!!!

I have a few from John in Snakewood - it is the best looking wood hands down, but as mentioned above, it does shrink some.

On all three of the knives I have the handle pins are just slightly proud of the wood now - not a huge deal and could be lightly sanded to fix.

I do love the look, and I use the Galley Wag and Cutlass in the kitchen regularly, so the wood holds up very well.

Wow. Those are gorgeous, mqqn.

I have a few knives in snakewood (none by JK), but quite frankly the only one that is used with any regularity is my small CRK. I also have a Peanut and a Pemberton. None of the 3 have exhibited any shrinkage as of yet but the reports of same is why I don't have more than these.
