Mnandi Snakewood Inlay. DOB: 8/23/10

My problem is when I went to use it the lock bar failed and closed on my thumb and blood was everywhere. Below is a short video to show opening it, locking up, then all I do is put pressure to close blade and the lock fails and the blade closes. I have many CRK knives and have had many pass thru my hands and have never seen this before. I called CRK and they said to send it in. They said it sounds like a warranty issue and they will handle ASP. Always GREAT Customer Service!

Just sent it overnight UPS for tomorrow delivery. I will keep you guys posted.

Howard,

Sorry about your thumb--I hope the cut wasn't too deep.
I am glad CRK is all over it, but it serves as a good warning that even with how thorough and excellent CRK's QC is, even they are not immune to issues/failure.

Keep us posted brother. . .

This shows that one can always slip through! Glad you are ok, that's a stunning inlay on your knife by the way! As said above, let us know when you get it back.

What were you doing when the knife failed? That didn't look like a lot of pressure either! Hope your thumb heals quickly and your knife gets returned to you in a timely manner.

Honestly I was just admiring the knife and it slipped and cut me. The only reason I put up the video was to show I wasn't doing anything crazy, no real pressure, wasn't abusing the knife. I was pretty shocked at the failure and blood on my desk, lol

Well no I was opening and closing it, checking the smoothness, that sort of thing... I had it open and wrapped my index around the back I the blade and it just shut as the video shows, no real pressure needed.

The blade looks way off centre at the start of the vid, was the piot tight when this happened ?

Also one of the screws seems more proud of the slab. I don't have a Mnandi so I don't know if that's normal. Is there a chance the Pivot scew was tight but maybe cross-threaded Hodo? Hope you are OK, and hope your knife is too. Those slabs are gorgeous!

Interesting question.

Regardless the reason, it'll get sorted out.

The snakewood on that one is some of the nicest I've seen

So the Snakewood Mnandi arrived back today from CRK today, took exactly one month to repair. It was repaired under warranty and given a brand new blade. Good news is the lock up is solid as a tank now, sorta bad news is it is a new style blade with the new smaller nail nick. I bought this knife because it was beautiful and had the old style nail nick and clip. I have been playing with it and seem to be opening it a bit easier one handed. But to open with both hands is no problem really.
