My vote has to be for the ebony. It's local to me here in south Texas and I'm partial to it because my grandfather makes crosses out of it. He uses all types of wood, but it's the most beautiful IMO.
Here's a pic of some of his work. Both wooden crosses are Texas ebony. The one on the left is ebony root and the other is made from an early growth limb with the lighter exterior wood and dark core. The central cross is made from a railroad spike by a fellow knife guy out of Oahu.
