I recently sold off a bunch of other knives and think I may use some of the money to order a large snakewood Sebenza that I've always wanted. I have looked at a ton of different threads here and googled a lot as well, but I've still never seen snakewood in person.

I know it varies with each piece but for those of you with any experience with it, is the color in person a richer, deep redish brown or more orange/light brown? I'm hoping it is the former but if it turns out to be more orange I may go for the cocobola inlay.

Thanks for your help.

Here are some pics of my small damascus annual with snakewood. Mine is definitely a darker, richer redish-brown and almost brown-black combination. It is my personal favorite of inlays, due to aesthetics. Others can attest more to the hardness/durability of the different inlay materials, but from my understanding, it's pretty hard stuff.

I have a large and to my eyes its more of a redish brown, don't really notice much orange if it is in there.

The colors here are pretty accurate. The inlays are nice in contrast, but it really shines when the inlays are wet. They almost have a glow which is beautifully badass. Granted these are all to my eyes.

Mine is a user, and despite having it for only a short time I can tell it'll hold up well.

This is one of my current EDC's. The color variation on this one seemed to be a little more dramatic than most, so I bought it :D. The true colors are slightly darker and a tad more reddish than this shows, but it's close. CRK does a great job of getting quality pieces of wood for these inlays.

Thanks. Those are some great looking knives. I'm thinking of doing a large with ladder Damascus. It is a year wait but it would be worth it.

Hard to say what you will get in a years time.....

But I can say that the samples of snakewood I have do not have any hint of orange in them.

Redish brown on my mnandi snakewood. I chose this particular wood for its unique pattern.
