for some time i thought the gec snake was australian but after reading the gec knife tube i found that the wood they use comes from Suriname , a republic on the north atlantic coast of south america. the only 2 snakewoods i found were suriname & australian. the janka hardness scale lists suriname at 3800 & the australian at 4150. 3800 is still very hard as our own bois d'arc [bodark] is around 2500. all this time i was calling it australian snake but actually i have no idea what that wood looks like. the hardest wood in u.s. is listed as a form of lignum vitae [hollywood] which rates at 4400.--dennis these facts i obtained from the Janka Wood Hardness scale.
