Amazing when you consider that the two ''small'' Voyager folders on top are actually the large versions. I'm really getting hooked on the XL's. :D Sorry about the weak pic, I forgot to set it up properly.

Like you, I enjoy the larger Cold Steel knives. Amazing the lower one only has a 4.25 blade. LOL

I was made an offer for the Black Rhino, and no longer have it. It served me well, even the AUS-8 steel. In the years I had it, I never needed to use more than an ultra fine diamond hone to keep it finger cutting sharp. I'm sure it's new owner will get many years of enjoyment from it's use.

very nice choices..i also enjoy some of the very big folders. thanks for sharing.

Folding tools. I expected Cold Steel multitools . Knives are tools. DoY!

I always liked those two tone models.

Excellent! I am also hooked on the xl's, especially the voyagers. Only one missing is the clip point, which I want in CTS XHP. All my others are Aus 8. That Rajah 2 makes the voyager xl look small!

I scored a Counter Point XL in AUS for $46 last month. A Voyager Tanto XL for $30 and a Recon 1 Tanto XL for again $46. I really need to invest in a lens.

That Vaquero is growing on me, has been for some time.

Counter Point XL is by far my favorite. Only knife they make that is a true spear point.

Oooooh, I'm jealous of your Recon 1 XL. very nice collection. I've got a large Espada and a Rajah II; that's it for me as far as mega folders go, and I almost never carry them. I just don't know how I'd justify them to a LEO if stopped somewhere in the urban wasteland I live. Sick of fear-mongering Canada.

With my 5 inch Voyager (VG-1 steel), I just called it "My perfectly legal pocket-knife."
Then I told them about how it was discontinued, and was more collectable due to the VG-1 steel, since the cop had asked how much it cost.
The cop said "Don't pull it out in public much, because people might get freaked out."

Remember, it's at their discretion.
If you're a harmless "Knife Nerd", you can carry just about anything you want. :)
If they perceive you as wanting to hurt people, a very small knife will get you hassled.

Just remember, all of here pretty much count as collectors, even when we use our knives. We ALL know WAY too much about knives compared to the general public, and a big part of being a collector/harmless "Knife Nerd" is knowledge.

Thanks stab, that's a comforting post to read. :)

Cool. Some fun steel there !

My biggies are pretty plain Jane, but I can toss a hundred dollar bill up here and get a big toy. Pretty good deal in my books. :)

Tools/toys, pretty much fall into the same category for me. Realistically the four inch folders are my most practical and I really have little justification for the mega folders, other than they are fun to play with. And I'm becoming increasingly fine with that. Life is short, have fun. :)

Actually I got the Raja years ago and never thought much of need/wanting anything bigger. Then the new Voyagers came out and I picked up a few biggies for giggles n schnitz. Now I really don't care about being practical, they are just fun. The big folders are just another hobby for me. :)

Well for sure I am discrete were I bring these behemoths, which is primary out of town for me. I might get another Raja to beat up while wood processing. I'd like to keep a well treated back up. Actually I have been doubling up some knives lately.

100% This stuff is fine to doink around with in its own time and place, but it is far from the center of my universe. Just another hobby/interest.

I thought about the Counter Point but went with the Hold Out. I think that I was focused on a post from a dude in Alberta that felt safer going through the bush with one, as opposed to a SAK. If you have lived in those areas multiple factors contribute to understanding how this makes sense. Then when the sales came on to dump the old steel it was hard to say no.

Pretty much a double win when a company upgrades steel and excretes the old for give way prices. Steel for a steal. You can quote me on that.

Happened with Kabar ZK "Death Dagger" which was upgraded fron SK5 to 1095 CroVan, as with the others in that line. I got 2 SK5s on KC for around 30 each, shipped.

I missed the boat on the ZK Chop Stick, a model they completely did away with.

No problem. :)
For the most part, my experience of knives and the public has been positive.
While at a Tim Horton's after a Christmas Exchange from a few years back, I was there with two other guys, and a bunch of knives. The largest was a 13 inch blade Condor Golok Machete that I had modified (the guy I was doing a follow-up with chose the Spyderco Superhawk instead).

Rather than being scared, a guy walked over and asked if he could borrow a knife...he was trying to cut/pry his way into a container.
One of the other people at the table loaned him a knife, and I was sure the fellow would stab his own hand the way he was going about it.
He didn't but the container wouldn't open either.

But to think that you could sit at a table in a coffee shop in a city of 200 thousand people with a machete and a bunch of other knives without people freaking out is pretty cool.
The biggest thing though was the vibe being thrown off; we looked like a bunch of collectors rather than terrorists. Body language counts for sure.
