Snap-on Blur steel question

I just bought a Kershaw Snap-on blur off of eBay because I heard good things about the Blur and the seller assured me it had Sandvik steel. However when I got It I was kind of disappointed with the sharpness, It won't cut paper or cardboard great, even-though i touched it up on a diamond and ceramic rod.

Mine is a 08 and i read the thread stating all blurs made after 07 are supposed to be Sandvik or better, but that thread didn't mention my specific model number

I originally got the blur because the skyline was such a great cutter but the handle was a little small for me (plus assisted knives are cool). Now I have a not so sharp blur and no skyline because I took it back to Walmart. :grumpy:

Basically i was wondering if anybody could tell me if the knife i have has 440 or Sandvik steel.

Here's the specs

MN:1670BLKSO Date:August 2008

It says Snap-on on it and has a plain edge if that helps

Thanks.

All of the references I'm seeing to the 'Snap On' Kershaw Blur are listed as having 440A. Kershaw has made a lot of knives using it (like the Leeks, at one time). I have two or three of the older Leeks in 440A, and I'm pretty pleased with them.

440A can take a very fine edge. It's generally not quite as hard or durable as other steels, but I'm finding it easy to sharpen, even with relatively simple tools (like wet/dry sandpaper). It responds VERY well to the higher grits (1000 and above), and takes a high polish easily. Use very light pressure when sharpening, and maintain a consistent angle. It should respond accordingly.

Welcome to the forum.

Before July 07 = 440a
July 07 to March 09 = 13C26
After March 09 = 14C28N

This is from memory so could be off a little.

Thanks for the info

I just sent a email to kershaw customer support asking them the same thing and depending on there answer ill either send it in to get sharpened or try to return it
