Snap Repair for a WW2 USMC Kabar

You can go to their website at jmurrayinc1944.com if you feel it's safer. I actual got this reference from an old thread on this site when I was researching the repair.

Which sheath do you have? One of the fiber scabbards for a USN Mk 2, or a leather sheath? I'm looking at a 1945 USN Mk 2 and the button looks similar, but the back isn't quite right. The back on the Mk 2 sheath I have is very flat. Of course the finish has worn off of most of it to brass.

I can't tell you if that snap will work, it looks different from what you have, and it's different from what I have on my NORD sheath. Your best bet might be to measure it, find a snap that fits those measurements, and replace both sides.

It looks like a fairly "standard" snap to me that any decent leather shop should be able to fix/replace...

If you need to replace both the male and female halves, you could probably darken the (new) brass with some chemical to try to match the patina of the old one...I'd google "how to darken/antique brass." Good luck.

Thanks everyone for the input. The gentleman from J Murray 1944.com is sending me a snap to find out if it's correct, I only need the rear portion. The ones he has are from Scovill. I did consider leaving it alone, but figured if this works, why not. His company does restoration of war time helmets. I'll let you know how this works out.
