Snap to the blades...

Well, I got myself a queen #9 stockman in cocobolo, and I'm impressed. The grind, the scales, the blosters...it's right on. One thing that bothers me...on the main (clip) blade, the spring is rather tight. It snaps VERY hard, almost to the nail-breaking level. Any way to loosen the snap a little bit?

All of my Queen knives came that way, and I prefer that. That's also how the majority of knives were in the old days, most of my antique knives have monster snap. That way, as the knife aged with heavy use and wear on the tang/backspring, there was still snap on the blade.

I have more problems getting new slippies with weak backsprings and anemic snap.

Queen deserves credit for putting a good backspring on their slipjoints.

Weak springs are like a dunghill rooster. But if it's hurting your nail, you might try leaving it half or 3/4 open overnight for awhile.

Yep, after about 2 weeks of EDC, I've really gotten used to it, and I just can't stand my Schrades anymore :p The backsprings on those feel so weak by comparison, whereas the queen has a nice and solid lockup.

Got it. As you probably guessed, I didn't grow up around chickens. Useful expression, though--thanks!
