Snapped off a clip

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Last night, wrestling with my kids, the clip on my Native IV (back right pocket) caught on the door edge and popped off. I found all three screws but two of the threads are no good anymore (well, actually one of them wasn't ever any good, came that way from the factory). So, I've converted to tip down carry. Not my favorite but at least I had the option. I wonder if this would have happened with a wire clip.

I talked to another member here who caught a wire clip Sage on a car door. He bent the heck out of the clip, but it didn't come off. Spyderco sold him a new wire clip for $6 or $7, and it was good as new.

I've done that plenty of times, I can generally bend the clip back to functional. Don't think that I've ever ripped the screws out though. on the wire clip

I did that with my Military a few days ago. Luckily, it was fixable in about 35-45 seconds, as it bent back and none of the threads were damaged. I really thought it was going to snap, it was bent at least 45 degrees. I snagged a Persian clip once though, and that snapped trying to bend it back(I wedged it between a table and the leaf and tried using that to rebend it a little snugger, my own fault). After reading the Bushcrafter thread, I feel like I should make the argument that it serves me right for buying a foreign made knife:foot::p

Regardless, it always is a bummer to break a clip. Those Sage wire clips do seem to be a lot less brittle and surprisingly tough.

To clarify, I didn't break the clip. The screw threads, one of which was already weak/non-functional, stripped out. I would have preferred the clip to have broken. Oh well, I guess is it an excuse to buy another knife.

Sounds like you could just retap the clip holes to maybe a #4 machine screw which you can get at home depot or lowes. Shouldn't cost much and would be very easy for you to do, rather than buy a knew knife.

I snapped the clip on my delica a few weeks ago, definitely sucks.

Did the screw threads strip or did the threads in the hole strip? If it was just the screws, they can be replaced.

Are the screws threaded into the liners? Don't have a Native, but my Tenacious clip screws are threaded into the liner, not the scales.

It may be worth contacting customer service and explain to them what happened and that one of the screws wasn't good out of the box.

The CF native and the CF Lum are on my list of "to get when I get employed again" knives.

The threads in the liner are the problem, not the screw threads. The Native IV is a fantastic design. Absolutely fantastic. But, to be honest, the execution was not what it could have been. Just a few minor but persistent issues have plagued the model. That said, the Native IV is my most used knife, by far. I really, really like it.
