anyone else feel like the Tandy snaps dont hold very well? I'm having them pop open on some of my larger sheaths that take two snaps. I think the ones I got at ACE hold stronger (but dont come in black).

What snaps do you like and dislike?

I'm going to try the Ohio travel bag snaps as I hear they also come in extra long posts

Look up DOT brand snaps if you like to choose the hardness of your snaps, they have everything from very light to darn near impossible to snap and unsnap. Just a cautionary note, do not bother with the heaviest snap, they are for tarp type applications and are stupid strong. Not meant for constant use.

The newest generation of Tandy snaps are much better than the older ones, much firmer and positive. I used to have trouble with the older stuff being rather inconsistent, these that have the Tandy stamped on them are much better.

I believe I’m using the newest one if they say Tandy Tandy stamped on inside. Based on some other reading it’s possible I got some oil on my snaps and causing it to no lock in as good.

Any idea what dot rating these Tandy ones are?

That's a good question! I do not know, but I will see what I can find out on how to test them.

I've got stainless DOT snaps on hand, the extra cost I'm not sure was worth it. Those things are expensive! From a search last year DOT are quite a bit more than Tandy's version, but you do get to order the parts individually. I nearly always end up with left over's of one piece or another.

Another thing I've discovered with DOT snaps is they do not work as well in my snap setter (I have the red Tandy version with Tandy dies)The domes do not sit as deep in the cup so they pooch in the center where the post is. Not the nice smooth dome look of the Tandy snaps. I wonder if the Tandy dies are domed deeper?
