Book after book always states to have wire for constructing snares. However the books never say what diameter of wire to use or the type of material such as steel or brass. Looking for imput as to what will work for snares.

Brass works better than steel. Steel rusts to easaly and carries a scent thats harder to remove than breass. For "servival" perposes though 16lb Monel fish line works better than brass line. Guages for brass line are ether 22 or 24 guage. I would stick with the 24 guage as I find it more all around use full. Remember though that all snares must be boiled than discollored before using. Boiling removes any human scent, and discoloring helps to blend the brass into the enviro. The best way to acomplesh both results is to boil the snares in a symple mixture of pine needle and bark with water. Does the trick realy well. Also dont worrie about carring plyers or a multi tool with you to cut the wire. Just fold the wire over and bash with a rock, log, or back of axe or knife. Unfold...and whala. Cut line.

I use picture hanging wire which can be un-twined(?) into very thin pieces or double triple twined for bigger pieces.

but it depends on what you are snaring:D
