Perhaps this has been covered?

I ordered a one-pound spool (595 feet) of annealed 22-gauge (.025) stainless steel wire today from MSC. Cost about 12 bucks plus shipping.

MSC product number: 31980113

This should give me a lifetime supply of snare wire.

Forgive my ignorance.

What (Who) is MSC?

Care to part with 50ft or so? I can't see a need for almost 600ft.

MSC charges a 3.65 handling charge as well as standard shipping.

Total shipping charges (For me) would be in the 7.50 range...

Just FYI to everyone who is thinking about this.

What are the relative merits of copper vs. SS? Copper is, at least, readily available. SS must be stronger at equivalent gauges. Copper is easy to darken. ?????

Rick, pre-make your snare's at home, SS wire is not easy to work with in the field with out tool's.

Copper has an extremely low tensile strength compared to stainless steel. I wonder if bowstring material would be a good choice. It is the same size as dental floss but has a breaking strength of perhaps 75 lbs. Plus, it comes in all sorts of groovy camo colors.

used metal guitar strings worked nice on rabbits and squirrels. would think any metal musical instrument strings should work.
