Snare Wire

In my kits I keep snare wire but other than making snares I've never caught anything due to the laws here. The wire I keep in my kits is either stainless steel wire, brass wire or stranded wire from a jewellery making kit with crimps.
What is good wire and why?

I have brass in my kit (never used it). But it does seem a bit springy. I think you'd need some pliers or something to wrap it around to make a loop.

Braided 1mm stainless wire with crimps is ideal snare wire IMO.

I don't like brass wire, I think there is a metallic smell to it that animals can detect.

I also secure snare loops with cotton yarn.

I carry wire for use, if needed, to hang a pot over a fire for cooking and for safely pulling it off the fire. It can also be useful for improvised repairs of many items, such as glasses.

It can do more than just serve for snares.

I like to carry snares out of picture hanging wire, it's braided, cheap and works quite well. I too have seen the potential of old guitar or other stringed instrument strings for this.

Thanks for the replies.
I am a little aprehensive about atainless steel due to it being so permanent. A little like me not using stainless steel fishing hooks, if you miss your target it has the opportunity of the metal corroding and surviving.
I don't like the thought of a creature trying to survive with a piece of stainless wire attached to it.

If I'm in a survival situation then I hope the little bugger doesn't survive so I can.;)

picture hanging wire will rust so if left out too long or lost it will go away soon enough.
