Or as my 1 snare attempt should be titled: "Squirrel's Away!"

Looking for a good source for making snares. Need something along the lines of "Snares for Dummies.", well thought out descriptions, pictures etc.

My one attempt involved bending a small sapling down to a loop type snare with a trigger that had peanut butter & granola on it. Got bored while hunting and just whittled it out with a Case Trapper, paracord, and some MRE peanut butter with granola crumbs on it. Area was amid a bunch of white oaks crawling with squirrels.

Honestly did not expect it to do crap, was just bored and had given up on seeing deer after 4-5 hours of nothing.

Next thing I know I heard the snare go off. Looked over to see a squirrel slung into the air like a catapult upon which the paracord came loose and became entangled in a overhead tree limb. Basically it looked like a squirrel had hung himself.

While the mechanics worked, I know there were several mistakes. Honestly I could probably not even duplicate what I did as I was just winging it.

Any suggestions?

Oh God, can you just imagine what went through that squirrels head, I mean, he really has a freakin story to tell.

Hi I hope this isnt hi-jacking but how do you make those tree snares? where you bend the tree over and hook up a trigger and a loop?. Any help or pictures would be nice.

You use a piece of wood to serve as a support/anchor which is released when an animal passes through the snare. There are many ways to do it, but the principle is the same.

That site, the stuff within and the writing style reminds me of a book I read in the library when I was a kid. The american boys handbook of somethng and something. Taught you how to make bows, snares, all kinds of stuff I thought was so cool.

Thanks for the links. Need to practice a lot of these when I go camping come the fall. Perfect thing to do during downtime.
