  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

In on one. Sitting in the backyard by one of the last fires of the year with coyotes howling in the distance.

The heat will arrive soon and I won't be able to hear anything over the air conditioning from the couch. I can actually hear my neighbors AC running right now.

In on whatever page this is...

Just came in for lunch. 95% done with building 2 new beehives for the Nukes I have coming in Saturday. Still need to cut out a divider board and cut/trim/paint the outer lid.

I'm converting from standard Langstroth hives (the stack of white boxes you see out in pastures) to a longer "top-bar hive", but using Langstroth frames, essentially 3 deep boxes end to end rather than stacked on top of each other, and up on 30 inch legs so I don't have to bend over so much when working the hives.

A standard "deep" box weights 70 to 80 pounds when it is full. Way too heavy to mess with when you have a bad back. With a longer hive, I'll just be working a single frame at a time for the entire hive.
