Snatched up an old Case this morning...pattern?

I just came away from the antique store with this Case. I'm still not up enough on pattern names to know what it is though.

As you can see, it's a 2 blade, single spring knife with scales that look like camel bone to me. About 3 1/4 long closed, with a 2 1/4 main clip blade. The handle has a swell on the spring side, and a gradual turn down on the main blade end.

Jack knives have their blades on one end only, stockmen and whittlers have 3 blades, swell centers swell on both top and bottom, right?

I love the knife, it's light and thin, not too big, not to small. I'm color blind and can figure out if the handles are green, brown, or blackish and the pics may not be good enough to tell either.

What do you all think?

I believe the blade on each side is called a Pen knife. It appears to be of 80's vintage with nice smooth bone handles. Probably carbon steel based on the peppering on the pen blade. Very nice knife you have there, in excellent condition.

Awesome, thanks! I'll have to look up Appaloosa bone. As a kid we once had a 17 hand Appaloosa, but I'm guessing they aren't related. :)

Actually I believe the mottled effect of the dyed bone is meant to simulate the pattern of the Appaloosa horse, so in a way they are. :D

They're old photos, but I just so happen to be carrying this Case Barlow in Appaloosa bone this very day:

Your whittler has an absolutely outstanding color and pattern. Fantastic find!

Thanks, I appreciate it. Looks like appaloosa bone is regular ol' bone dyed with a mottling resembling an appaloosa. Kind of cool. Looking forward to getting some use out of this one, definitely glad I picked it up!

A very nice find, Appaloosa Bone varies a great deal in colour - as does the horse - other companies GEC and Böker have done their versions too. It can come in jigged or smooth, CASE certainly did very good knives in this bone.

A single-spring two blade knife is a fine pattern as it carries light. The Half-Whittler frame you have has been offered in a lot of different bones by CASE, just wish they'd do more with their Serp Penknife, it's a question of, you can have whatever handle you like so long as it's Yellow D...

Nice find! Sometimes I think the appaloosa pattern must have started by mistake with a dye that didn't set. You can imagine the moment when it's almost thrown aside, then inspiration strikes.
Don't have a camera to take and post photos yet, or I'd post a Case canoe with green appaloosa. My favorite dyed bone of all my low dollar collection.
Do you have any canoe whittlers? The ones some call cannitlers? They're worth some looking at, too.
Hey, TsarBomba - beautiful Case penknife.

I have a Bulldog brand 2 blade canoe, but don't know if it would be considered a whittler with the blades it has. I'll take a pic and see what you all think.

I think LouieLouie is talking about three-blade canoes. Here's a Rough Rider version:

Canal Street Cutlery made one that was actually the Blade Forum knife one year.
