Making my semi-regular visit to 'the forge' today, I once again took some pics for your guys. This week, Ken & Allen were not there so I ventured out into the shop area for some photos. Pretty sure I managed to get pictures of weeks coming sneak peeks as well as some 'what is that!?!?' - which I ended up asking Andy more than a couple times. Enjoy.

Patterns scratched out on bar stock steel ..

I asked .. the bottom blank is Stainless Steel. The orange coating is a preventive for heat treating.

I do believe these have just finished heat treatment - and a Hiking Buddy with a tapered tang.

Knife caddys are sitting all over the place - each are group of knives are in a different level of completion. These looks very close to done!

Awesome man thanks for sharing it's very nice to see the workings of Fiddleback HQ

damn!, that ruby burlap bushfinger looks sweet!
As always thanks for the sneak peak, Bonafide!

Thanks for the look inside! It looks like there's going to be a few thick-handled models in the weeks to come.

Wish I could put a dibs on a few of those!

These pics make me even more curious about the spalting. Any idea when/how that happens in the process?

Ancient Fiddleback secret. :anonymous:

Yeah, yeah. I get the "proprietary trade secret" stuff. Just looking at the pics you posted, I'm not sure it's placement in the sequence of knife building is where I thought it was. Which makes me curious.

And I've long been curious about the shift from old to new spalting in the Fiddleback history, especially since Andy has referred to both types with the name "3D spalted."

I guess I'm just the curious sort. 😄

Michael

You bring up a good point. The spalting has changed. It's not what it used to be a few years ago.

Couple more shots ..

A 'one off' shop knife ..

What I wouldn't give to be able to learn how to do that! Thanks bonifide for the pics and thanks Andy for letting us see how it's done! Just an Art!

Great job Bud! You captured a lot of different aspects of the shop process. I appreciate seeing what goes on behind the scenes.

Thanks,

Phil

Great insights into the art & process of crafting a Fiddleback Bud......thanks for sharing. Those tapers were totally insane !

What is this?!?! Look at the taper on this thing:

Thanks Bud for the inside peak again.

I was wondering the same thing Nathan. It sort of looks like stout Mini Camp Nessie from this view. That would be cool.

Phil

My guess is the runt in background the far right bin and the perspective is just making it look weird.

And now that you mention it, where did that Shadetree Camp Nessie we were looking at last week go?

These are the best posts. Love to see all of the steps that go into these knives. As everyone before has said "Thanks for sharing". Great pics.

Thanks Bud for the inside peak again.

It's a phat Runt.

M4Super90 - some knives are pulled and set aside for Dealers or up coming Knife Maker shows which is why I say, 'these may be some of the knives you'll see come Friday'.

Seeing the process is very cool. I hope someday to make a knife. This shows just how much work is involved and there are so many more steps that aren't even photo documented. Thanks for sharing Bonafide.

Bud thank you for taking the time to document this. In this day and age were so many things are produced overseas. It is refreshing and inspiring to see American Craftsman at there finest!
I can not wait to make a trip down there together to see in person.
Rob
