Hey all, just thought i would see if i could get your input. I just got done putting the edging on and forging out the tip. Then I gave her a quick grind and test etch to see what this pattern is going to look like.

The core is a 9 layer, 4 bar twist interupt pattern and the edging is 153 layer straight laminate. The core is kinda like a mini Sutton Hoo (sp?). The two bars on one side are offset to the other side, so where there are stars on one side, there is straight laminate directly behind that on the other side. I hope that makes sense.

I think I got a little crazy forging the tip on this one, but I still need to draw her out. Right now she is about 3/8+ thick. Then I have to try to put a fuller in this guy, and that is kinda scarey.:)

What do you think so far?

That's way too cool. I've been resisting the urge to dabble in pattern stuff , but that's very inspirational Sean.

What are you using to draw out your billet?

Furniture - Probably damascus gaurd and pommel. I am playing with the idea of using mokume, but I don't think it would fit the Viking theme. Wood handle, probably some nice African Blackwood that I have, and I am going to try to flute it and inlay it with twisted silver wire.

The steels are C1095 and 15N20. One of these days I will venture out and try the O1 and L6 combo, but for right now, I am pretty comfy with 1095 and 15N20. I would also like to try doing some marquenching and Austempering, if I ever get around to buying some low temp salts.

Thanks for the nice replies guys.

To say you are "comfortable" with those steels is an UNDERSTATEMENT! ZOW! AN artist of metal, that is what you are!
