Sng bull pivot adjustment

Can anyone tell me what the best tool/method to make fine adjustments on the bull pivot. I am able to turn one side with a 3mm hex driver but the other side moves with it. It is slotted on both sides of the circle but not easily held with a flat head screwdriver. Any suggestions?
