sng opening option

anyone else notice that the notches on the top of a strider sng can be used like an emerson wave? i was taking my sng out of my pocket and the notches cought my pocket and the knife opened up perfectly. to make sure it wasnt a fluke, i tried again with successful results. is that the way it was designed or what? are you supposed to be able to do that? should i stop doing it? i thought it was an awesome discovery, like getting a new knife.

anyone else doing this already?

There's nothing wrong with doing it if you like it to open that way, but no, Mick and Duane didnt design it that way on purpose.
The AR/GB will do the same thing if it has the double thumbstuds, they catch on the corner of pocket.

BTW, when Ernie Emerson first designed the wave it wasnt designed for that purpose either. It was originally meant as a blade catcher to deflect your opponents blade in a close up fight. About the same time a SEAL he had sent one to for evaluation found out it would open that way, Ernie had realized the same thing and the rest is history.
