I have recently been looking into buying a carbon fiber sage and I'm wondering if I should email spyderco and see if I could buy a sage 2 TI framelock scale. I love the Frankensage but I don't really want to buy both models if I'm only going to use a half of each. What are your thoughts and opinions?

you would not be able to buy the locking side, or the non locking side. but even if you could it wouldnt work because each lock is fitted to each blade. if you want a "frankensage" you would need at least a sage 2 and you could have a front scale made for it or buy a sage 1 and transfer the scale from that.

Maybe try finding someone on the forums who has a sage 1 and see if they would be willing to trade one "side" of their sage for a titanium side. Sounds like both parties would be getting something good!

I can half way understand why someone would want a titanium framelock with a lighter, grippier scale on the other side. Can't for the life of me see why anyone would want to increase the weight and decrease the grip and increase the weight by putting a ti slab on a the "wrong" side.

As has been noted, Spyderco does not sell the parts you'd need, and the blade needs to stay with the lock since it's cut differently, so having a custom scale made for the Sage II seems like the most sensible way to accomplish your goal.

If I remember correctly I think a member of the spyderco forums did exactly what the OP wants. I tried searching but cant seem to find it.

Think you will find they swapped the front scale and liner from a Sage I onto a Sage II. That will work, the hole pattern is the same. You can also put the Sage II's titanium front scale on the Sage I. Only problem is, you have to purchase both knives and the Sage I with the ti front scale is going to be somewhat of an unwanted orphan.

Just buy both and sell the one with the liner lock. You might loose a few dollars on that sale but it would still be the cheapest route it seems.

Thanks guys, I think I might just buy the sage 1 and search around the forums for a used sage 2. I really would like to keep both CF scales just in case, for warrenty purposes.

Because they are left-handed. I think righties forget that left-handed individuals exist. Switching out the slab would do almost nothing to alter the "grippiness" of the knife if you are left-handed. Also, the titanium slab will make it very very slightly slimmer.

Besides, then it just makes the knife that much more unique.

To each his own. I'm left handed and the lock would still be on the wrong side for me.
